Sunrise over Whitehead

The last day of a week of painting on Monhegan Island this summer, I woke early, loaded my back pack with gear for painting, found my head light, and headed out to Burnt Head to watch the sun rise.  I was not disappointed!  The sky and water colors emerged slowly at first then, explosively, burst upon the scene, coloring everything pink and orange and yellow.  Black White Head, in the distance, picked up the red glow from the water.  It felt as if the world was on fire with jewels of joy.  Then, just as quickly as it came, the color faded and the day began.
