My painting efforts this past fall lead me to explore watercolor as a medium.  I took a class in watercolor techniques and have had a grand time developing a wider tool bag for my work.  A series of paintings and drawings which focused on images of Indian pipe plants gave focus to these explorations.  My husband and I were hiking in the Harpswell area of Maine in late September when we came upon an extensive area of Indian pipe.  These tiny plants kept revealing themselves to us in their rich and dark habitat.  I have loved the shape and quietness of Indian pipe for years, feeling that my summer is never complete unless I found them growing among the litter of the forest floor.  Below are three paintings which celebrate these wonderful plants.

Indian pipe II  and III followed, one a graphite drawing and one a watercolor painting.

Now the season has come full circle.  The Lobster Cove painting at the top of this post was completed on Monhegan Island in February last year.  The watercolor below is a first salute to winter 2014-2015.  I look forward to following my painting path into 2015.
