Rock, Water and Ice

Rock, water, and ice... we  have images in our minds when we think of each:  Rock:  solid and unyielding;  water moving;  ice still.  As I painted this image I had in mind the winter rock formations  on Pemaquid Point in Maine.  Lying below the beautiful Pemaquid Lighthouse, the rocks almost dance their way to the ocean.  Water caught between the rocks  becomes the solid mass; and the distant ocean's waters move slowly, rise and fall gently in response to the weight of the cold.  The dance of the rocks is the point of movement in this painting.  I am reminded that the images in our thinking mind always change when we look with open eyes at the world before us.  How grateful I am for the opportunity to see our beautiful earth environment with all of its intricacies.
