Dear Friends,
As with many of us, the past year was a time of challenge, quiet, and creativity for me. I am pleased to show my art work from this past year at the Sohns Gallery, The Rock and Art Shop, 36 Central St, Bangor ME. It is on display at the gallery from May 25 to July 10. Because of covid, there is no opening planned at this time. I invite you to stop by the Gallery, see the work, and let me know your reaction to it. While covid forced us each into separate bubbles, I found my bubble filled with images of Earth elements: water, rock, air. Focusing on these, the diverse voices of Mother Earth emerged: the spiraling, cycling force of water in a rock eddy; the explosive power of earth elements after a hurricane; the intimate, deep stillness one finds in quiet water and rock reflections; the beautiful curves of an ocean wave.
The paintings in the show, completed primarily in oil, reflect these images and more. Some are representational; others are metaphorical. They all point to my belief that, as we emerge from this year of covid, Earth Mother holds answers for us to find.
One particular painting in the show, titled 'Memories of my Grandmother', integrates the texture of my grandmother's lace needlework into an imagined landscape, incorporating the interaction between land, sky, air and my grandmother's generational gifts of reverence for all life, for our Earth, and for the Spirit which sustains and guides us. It was delightful to develop this work in collaboration with the Spirit of my grandmother.
From this year of isolation and stillness, I am pleased to share my creative work and am thankful to the Sohns Gallery for sponsoring this show.
